Physics 216, Show My Homework 1

An object moving in one dimension with constant acceleration $a=+5m/s^2$ starts from rest at x=0 m at time t=0 s

i) Fill in the empty cells in the table to the left showing the position and velocity of the object as a function of time

ii) Make a x-y plot of position as a function of time from t=0 s to t=20 s (started below)

Mathematically, how would you describe the shape of the graph?

The shape of the graph is the right part of a parabola that has the vertex in (0,0). How can you determine the shape of the graph from the equation you used for position? $S = V0*t + a*t^2/2$ and since $v0 =0$ then it remains $S = a*t^2/2$ which is a parabola having the Vertex in (0,0).

iii) Make an x-y plot of velocity as a function of time from t=0 s to t=20 s (started below)

Mathematically, how would you describe the shape of the graph?

The graph is a line that has the slope equal to the acceleration a and is through (0,0). How can you determine the shape of the graph from the equation you used for velocity? $V = V0 +a*t$ and since $V0 =0$ it remains $V =a*t$ which is a line with slope $a$.
